The Rain Forest
Day 2 Arrival in the Amazon with Overnight Stay on Day 2 & Day 3 in the Rainforest
Departing Day 4 Return Back to Quito
With a late arrival in the Amazon, it was time to check-in at the lodge and grab dinner with the group.. Dinner was included with the lodge stay. We were scheduled for a night walk, but with the rain pouring down, it was postponed to the next day. Day 3 started with breakfast and a morning walk through the rain forest. After that , it was up to each person to decide what they wanted to do for the day. The lodge offered several options (all for a price, of course).or you could opt to just hang out and enjoy the pool and trails around the property. Either way, the evening wrapped up with everyone enjoying a night walk through the rain forest after dinner. Day 4 was check-out time after breakfast as we headed back to Quito.
Below: Inside the room at the lodge, the room's outside patio, and the trucks used to take us to and from the lodge.
Day 2
A late night arrival in the Amazon for an outdoor adventure
Another Rainy Night
Upon arrival, it was raining hard and steady. Which meant the frogs were out and croaking away.
Day 3
A day walk through the Amazon, included with the tour package. After that, an optional tour to visit an indigenous community in the rainforest.
Good Morning, Rainforest
After a quick breakfast we headed into the rainforest for a great time exploring with our local rainforest guide.
Locals Living in the Rainforest
We travel deeper into the forest on the Napo river to visit Ahuano. At this small village we see how the locals live off the land. They showed us how to blow darts out of a dart gun, make a tasty snack, and live with nature.
We Visit the Caimans
Known as Laguna Caiman, a dock in the lagoon along the river has a bunch of caimans swimming in the water by the banks, looking for food.
Monkeys Everywhere
Next stop is an island with five different species of monkey living in the trees. You'll see Howler, Spider, Capuchin, Squirrel and Night monkeys. You can dock your canoe right on the shore and walk on the island and watch the monkeys in the trees. The island is located right at the junction of the Napo and Misahuallí rivers.
A Night Walk through the Rainforest
A highlight of the trip was a night walk through the rainforest. There were creatures of the night found everywhere. In this picture, a slimy slug greets us along the way as we tour the forest. You had to keep your eyes open to spot the spiders, snakes, crickets and more!
Day 4
An early morning departure in the rain, as we leave the Amazon and head back to Quito.
Breakfast at the lodge
One last meal at the lodge before we hit the dirt road.
